Application Process
- Access to subsidized assisted living is the responsibility of Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH). Please do not contact a specific provider directly.
- If you are currently receiving Home Health services from VCH, discuss your interest in assisted living with your Case Manager.
- If you are not currently receiving services from Vancouver Coastal Health, please call the Community Health Centre closest to you and ask to speak with a Case Manager.
- If you meet the eligibility criteria for Assisted Living, the assessment will be forwarded to the Assisted Living service provider who will make arrangements with you for a tour of the site.
- Once a unit becomes available and you are the next person on the list, you will be contacted to reconfirm your interest and eligibility for the site. You will also have your paperwork updated and be interviewed by the service provider and a VCH Case Manager.
- If your needs or circumstances change while you are on the waitlist, contact your VCH Case Manager.
What is the Typical Wait Time for a subsidized Assisted Living Unit?
- Assisted Living is long term housing. Tenants do not typically move unless their care needs increase significantly and they can no longer be supported in Assisted Living.
- Wait times vary from site to site. Your Case Manager can provide you with the average wait time for the site you are interested in.
What is the Difference Between Assisted Living and Complex Care?
- Tenants in VCH funded Assisted Living units live independently with some supports. They are responsible for making decisions about their day-to-day life and managing things like their own finances, appointments, transportation, etc. There are some hospitality and care staff but they are not necessarily in the building at all times.
- Residents of Complex Care require 24 hour professional care (e.g. nursing), and receive a higher level of care.
