Building Description |
Cedar Garden is a two-storey wood frame building renovated for Assisted Living in 2004. There is one main elevator. Exterior Access: Level main entrance with key swipe entry. |
Building Amenity Space |
There is a mobile tuck shop, a bathing spa on each floor, a visiting hairdresser, and fireplace nooks for quiet reading. A large-screen TV, piano and fully equipped kitchen are located in the dining area with a small, separate dining room that can be used by tenants and guests. Tenant laundry machines are on site and a guest suite is available for short stays at a reasonable cost. A secure, outdoor, furnished garden area and BBQ are available for use. |

Furnishings |
Each suite has a small kitchenette with bar-size fridge and microwave. Tenants furnish their own suites. There are a few fully furnished suites donated by the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation. |
Cost |
Individual tenants pay 70% of after tax income, which covers: 1) monthly rental accommodation, 2) hospitality services (meals, housekeeping, etc) and 3) personal care. Couples living together pay 70% of combined after tax income. Tenants on income assistance pay a flat rate. Residents also pay a $15 monthly hydro surcharge. Items that are not included as part of the 70% include: telephone, cable, household and toiletry supplies, all medications, personal care supplies, and insurance. |
Food Service |
Table service is provided in the main dining room at lunch and supper. Choice of 2 entrees provided at all meals. Two daily snacks are also provided. Special diets available upon request. Meal plan reviewed by a registered Dietitian. |
Housekeeping & Laundry |
Included in the monthly rent is weekly laundering of linens and towels, as well as weekly housekeeping of tenant’s suite. Washing machines located on the first and second floor are available for tenant’s personal use. |
Social/Recreational Opportunities |
The recreation director will meet with tenants to determine their interest in activities. A rich social and recreational program is available at Cedar Garden. |
Emergency Response (24) Capacity |
Staff are on duty 24 hours/day. A call-bell system is installed in the bathroom of each unit. |
Mobility |
Tenants must be able to move around their suite on their own, and make their own way to the dining room, with or without mobility aides. A small scooter storage area is available. |

Smoking Policy |
Outdoor smoking room available. Indoors is a smoke-free environment. |
Safety / Security Features |
Smoke detectors located in all rooms and common areas. Main door is secured at all hours. Visitors must ring tenant suite to gain access. Staff on duty 24 hours/day. |

All suites are wheelchair accessible. |
Exit Criteria |
Cedar Garden cannot accommodate tenants who are unable to make decisions on their own behalf, or who require 24-hour professional care. Tenants will be supported to find appropriate alternate arrangements through their case manager. |
